God is the creator and the destroyer of this Universe Everything is under His will. God has instilled qualities in each and every child. Every child is special. The more the qualities are nurtured, the more the child develops.
The job of a Guru is to guide his disciple and set him in the right track. A building is bound to crumble if the foundation is not strong enough. Therefore I believe that the initial training of a child should be perfect.
The perfect note of Saa should be instilled into the child and this great responsibility lies with his Guru. Kalavati Music Academy ims at this.
I do believe that this institution will turn into a holy cultural place of music in near future. Hundreds flock here every week. The initial small brook of Kalavati has gained the dimension of a great river today where several children derive joy and pleasure.
The smile on the face of each and every child gives me a heavenly feeling which is the greatest reward for me.
Rome was not built in a day. So was not Kalavati Music Academy of Bardhaman. The great determination, the relentless efforts, the wishes of all my friends and relatives and above all, the blessings of all my Gurus have culminated in todays Kalavati of Bardhaman.
When I walk down my memory lane, one realization dawns on me that nothing can stand in our way when our desire is strong. When I was three or four years of age, we did not even have a set of tabla. But our young, innocent minds at that time never grudged the lack of a tabla at home. The table that we had served our purpose well. My elder brother, Pratim very joyfully percussed the table and I very happily sang different tunes to its rhythmic beats.
My parents being great patrons and lovers of music were able to realize the hidden musical talents within us. Since then, they have encouraged and supported us in every way in the field of music.
My brother Pratim used to take lessons on tabla while I started taking music lessons from the age of six or seven. My love and affinity towards music grew day by day.
I received my initial training from my first Guru, shree Sujit Mazumdar of the same town, Bardhaman. Then I was under the guidance of Shree Nisakar Mallik. Since then I have been a disciple of innumerable Gurus and gharanas. I feel proud and I am fired with confidence when I am remainded of the fact that I was under the guidance of one of the legends and revolutionaries of Indian classical music, Padma Bhusan awarded, Pandit Jyan Prakash Ghosh. The other colossal stars in the sky of music who have enlightened me with their light are Dr. Amiya Ranjan Bandopadhaya, Prof. Arun Bhattacharya (Dhrupad Singer), Shree Biman Mukhopadhyay and Chandidas Basu. After completing the Masters degree in music, I took taalim in Bharatiya Raag Sangeet under Pandit Arun Bhaduri for about half a decade at Sangeet Research Academy affiliated to ITC, Kolkata. I was a research fellow and was awarded the grade B+ after lot of perseverance and hardwork.
I got the shock of my life and was heartbroken when one of my mentors, Pandit Jyan Prakash ghosh breathed his last in the year 1997. Since then I am a disciple of yet another peerless personality in the world of the Indian Classical Music, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. The great honorable personality has been my friend, philosopher and guide. Presently I am a music teacher (on contract basis) at higher secondary level at Bardhaman Harisava Hindu Girls High School. My motto is to propagate my knowledge in music to the next generation and to help them develop a sense of liking for this sublime art.
I have always dreamt of establishing an institution where I could teach children to present music in a right way and sing songs flawlessly. I believe music is a form of art which can purge ones soul of all evils and transport a persons mind above all narrow distinctions. The year 1990 has a special importance for me when my cherished dream was fulfilled. Kalavati Music Academy was born on the auspicious day of Poila baisakh, 1990, which I believe is my second daughter. Every year this day is celebrated with lots of fun, frolic and gaiety. Though no one is formally invited, yet all the members and the ex-members spontaneously join us on this day to make this day a grand success. I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and the reverence that the members have for their institution.
